Pros and Cons of Aging

Pros and Cons of Getting Old-er:
I've been thinking lately about getting older.  In fact, I've been thinking about it a lot since my milestone 60th birthday 3 1/2 years ago.  I don't think I like the idea of getting older but since there's no stopping time, I've decided to make the best of it and enjoy the benefits that come with it.  But with the benefits comes the down side.  So I've compiled a list of the pros and cons of getting older:

Pro:  I don't have to shave my legs as often...the hair just doesn't grow like it used to.
Con:  Now I have to deal with chin hair...yuk
Pro:  I get a seniors discount when I go out to eat.
Con:  The cashier automatically gives me a senior discount when I go out to eat.
Pro:  I can speak my mind more often and blame it on being older.
Con:  I sometimes forget what I'm talking about and blame it on being older.
Pro:  I enjoy life more now because I take time to "smell the roses".
Con:  If I have to bend over too far too smell them, I can't get back up.
Pro:  I have more time to spend with my grandkids.
Con:  My grandkids wear me out faster than they used to.
Pro:  Retirement (even semi-retirement) is wonderful!
Con:  Wasn't it just last year that I was 40?
And one more...
Con:  I can't take a bath anymore - getting out of the tub is impossible :(

On a More Serious Note - And Inspirational Essay

Today I was reading a recent post on a blog I've been following and the writer was talking about an essay that her 16 year old daughter had written for competition with her high school speech team.  Its about the new face of poverty and I was so very impressed with this essay.  It took me back to the days when it was just my kids and me and we were struggling so hard to make ends meet.  And more recently, my heart goes out to all those I know that have been affected by the current recession.  This is an essay that deserves more readers so I'm posting a link here for my readers.  http://stephaniesikorski.blogspot.com/2011/12/finance-friday-guest-post.html.  Please check this out...it's worth the time to read it.

And Finally:
I think I need to change the name of my blog.  I googled "thoughts and observations" and holy cow there are a lot of them out there so I'm guessing its not very original.  And here I thought I'd come up with a cool name all by myself.  So any suggestions?  This was supposed to be a blog about my writing so I could connect with the writing world out there, but I have all types of thoughts and opinions in my head so I decided to write about what else was in my head besides story's and characters.  Since my thoughts and posts are about all different subjects I thought about Eclectic Ramblings.  Guess what?  Lots of them out there.  Maybe since my link is to baglady's journal I'll just name it that.
And on the next post, I'll share how I came up with baglady.

Quotes of the Day:
Age is an issue of mind over matter. If you don't mind, it doesn't matter.
Mark Twain

Age is a very high price to pay for maturity.
Tom Stoppard

Age does not diminish the extreme disappointment of having a scoop of ice cream fall from the cone.
Jim Fiebig
